Welcome to the jungle! During this class, your child will go on a walk (more like a full body workout!) through the jungle. With a catchy tune we will learn and sing together, and some help from our animal friends, learners will perform various balance, agility, and strength exercises. No prior experience needed. No supplies or equipment needed! Come dressed in comfortable clothes and sneakers if you'd like. Oh! Don’t forget to bring all your energy and a water bottle too! Pretending to be jungle animals makes this upbeat fitness workout fun and entertaining! Children will learn how to stomp like an elephant, fly like a bird, and hop like a frog. Just to name a few! Class will begin with an introduction to the (very simple) song as well as talking about our favorite jungle animals. I wonder if we will see your favorite animal in the jungle! I will first guide students through the warm-up and stretching. Safety first! Next, I will model and perform a variety of exercises as we make our way through the jungle. Finally, class will finish with a final jungle walk and cool down stretch. Learners will have the opportunity to help me count out our exercise repetitions and guess which animal we will see next! You can expect your child to receive lots of encouragement and praise throughout our workout. They will leave feeling excited about fitness, and with a new workout routine they can practice at home! Active fun for the whole family!
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will learn a fun song and REAL stretches and exercises disguised as animal movements.
They will also be working towards achieving the daily physical activity recommendations of both the CDC and American Heart Association. According to the CDC, it is recommended that "children (3-5 years) should be physically active throughout the day for growth and development. Children and adolescents ages (6-17 years) should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity each day, including daily aerobic – and activities that strengthen bones (like running or jumping) – 3 days each week, and that build muscles (like climbing or doing push-ups) – 3 days each week."
According to the American Heart Association:
Active kids are more likely to have:
-a healthy weight
-stronger, healthier bones and muscles
-better heart and brain health
-improved brain function, including memory, attention and problem-solving
-better school attendance and academic performance, especially in math, reading and writing
-lower long-term risk of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and some kinds of cancer
-less stress and fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression
-less inappropriate and distracting classroom behavior
-improved mental health and psychological well-being, including confidence and self-esteem
