In this ongoing course, students will practice informative writing two times a week. The classes do not build upon each other so students can join the class anytime. During each class, students will brainstorm with a graphic organizer and will write an informational paragraph. The informative paragraph will include a topic sentence, three facts, supporting details, and a conclusion. This class is designed to give students time to practice their writing. Students will not be revising or editing their writing in this class. Below is a breakdown of each class: ***** Topic Introduction ***** At the beginning of each class, students will be introduced to the topic. Students will write on a different topic each class. Students will brainstorm ideas about the topic. The teacher will record the students' ideas onto an anchor chart. This brainstorming technique will help students to think about what they will want to write and to give them some ideas for their writing. ***** Graphic Organizer ***** Students will brainstorm with a graphic organizer. I will model how to fill out the graphic organizer first. Then, students will fill out their own graphic organizer with their own ideas. Students will be writing three facts about the topic. Then, they will write two or three supporting details for each fact. ***** Writing ***** Students will write an informative paragraph. I will model how to use the graphic organizer to organize the writing into an informative paragraph. The paragraph will include a topic sentence, three facts, supporting details, and a conclusion. Students will have time to write their own informative paragraph. As students are writing, I will check-in with each student. I will be asking students to share the ideas that they are writing about. If students are struggling on what to write, I will give them a few ideas. ***** Sharing ***** At the end of each class, students will be given an opportunity to share their writing with the group. Students will read their writing to the class. Students are also welcome to send me their writing in a message. Since each student writes at a different pace, some students may need extra time after class to complete their writing. ****************************************************************************************************************** This class is an ongoing class. You will pay a weekly subscription for this class. If you are unable to attend a week, you will need to unsubscribe before Sunday so you are not charged for the upcoming week. If you are unable to attend a class, I will share a lesson video with you so you can still complete your writing. ****************************************************************************************************************** Below are the topics students will be writing about during each class: Week of January 1, 2023: - New Year - Winter Activity Week of January 8, 2023: - Bakery - Weather Week of January 15, 2023: - Art - Transportation Week of January 22, 2023: - Arctic Animal - Soup Week of January 29, 2023: - Zoo - Winter Week of February 5, 2023: - Candy - Cruise Ship Week of February 12, 2023: - Valentine’s Day - Friends Week of February 19, 2023: - Scientist - Space Week of February 26, 2023: - Outside Sport - Music Week of March 5, 2023: - Athlete - Library Week of March 12, 2023: - Moving Theater - Birds Week of March 19, 2023: - Forest - Weekend Week of March 26, 2023: - Race - Museum Week of April 2, 2023: - Pond - Spring Activity Week of April 9, 2023: - Castle - Games Week of April 16, 2023: - Circus - Road Trip Week of April 23, 2023: - Birthday - Picnic Week of April 30, 2023: - Collecting Treasures - Staying Healthy Week of May 7, 2023: - Delicious Food - Pictures Week of May 15, 2023: - Baby Animals - Neighborhood
