Estrategias para campamentos de escritura

In this weekly writing camp, learners will learn and apply a writing strategy each class. They will brainstorm ideas and write a multiparagraph paper in each class. Learners will write in a different writing genre each week. The classes do not build upon each other. Learners are welcome to join anytime. 


In this class, learners will … 

⭐️ Be introduced to the writing genre for the week
⭐️ Have a mini lesson on the writing strategy
⭐️ Brainstorm ideas with a graphic organizer
⭐️ Apply the strategy to their writing
⭐️ Write a multiparagraph paper



Below is a breakdown of each class’s structure:

         ✏️ INTRODUCTION ✏️

Learners will be introduced to the weekly genre and will have a short minilesson on the writing strategy for the day. 


            ✏️  BRAINSTORM ✏️

Learners will choose their writing topic. The writing topic must fit with the writing genre and the writing strategy. I will give some writing topic examples. Learners may choose one of my example topics or may choose their own topic. They will use a graphic organizer to brainstorm ideas. 


                  ✏️ WRITE ✏️

Learners will use their graphic organizer to write a multiparagraph paper. I will show an example to the learners. As learners write, I will be available to assist with the writing. Learners will practice applying the writing strategy to their writing. 


                  ✏️  SHARE  ✏️

At the end of class, learners will share their writing with the group.

Week of January 5, 2025: Opinion Writing

- Strategy 1: Parts of a Topic - Create features and characteristics for your topic.
- Strategy 2: Support Your Reasons With a Definition, Example, or a Story - Provide additional details to support your opinion. 



Week of January 12, 2025: Informative Writing

- Strategy 1: Expert Map - Create a map on expert topics. Choose one topic to write on. 
- Strategy 2: Question-Answer - Write questions your audience would like to know about the topic. In your writing, answer these questions. 



Week of January 19, 2025: Personal Narrative

- Strategy 1: Focus in Time - Create a timeline and write about a moment in time
- Strategy 2: Build Suspense - Draw out an event to build suspense and excitement



Week of January 26, 2025: Persuasive Writing

- Strategy 1: Problem-Solution Structure - Use a specified structure to organize and create the persuasive writing piece. 
- Strategy 2: Prove it - Elaborate a persuasive writing piece with reasons and details.



Week of February 2, 2025: How-To Informative Writing

- Strategy 1: Create a Sequence - Outline the sequence on how to do a skill. 
- Strategy 2: Use Imagery - Draw out the sequence step - by - step. Describe each sequence in detail. 



Week of February 9, 2025: Narrative Story Writing

- Strategy 1: What’s the Inside Story? - Describe a character’s feelings and thoughts throughout the story. 
- Strategy 2: Picture It - Draw pictures that tell a story. Write your story based on your pictures.



Week of February 16, 2025: Descriptive Writing

- Strategy 1: Observe Closely - Use descriptive language to vividly describe an object.
- Strategy 2: What Do You Hear? - Describe the different sounds you hear around you.



Week of February 23, 2025: Sequence Writing

- Strategy 1: Create a Sequence Map - Describe a sequence in your life. 
- Strategy 2: Time of Events - Create a timeline of events that occur in a sequence. 



Week of March 2, 2025: Personal Narrative

- Strategy 1: Crack Open the Verbs - Use invigorating verbs to describe actions in more detail.
- Strategy 2: Zoom In: Zoom into one part of an event. Describe deeply everything in this part. 



Week of March 9, 2025: Opinion Writing 

- Strategy 1: Find Your Passion - Discover your passion and write about it.
- Strategy 2: So What? - Describe why you feel strongly about a topic. 



Week of March 16, 2025: Persuasive Writing

- Strategy 1: Outlandish Claim - Use an outlandish claim and design reasons to support your claim.
- Strategy 2: Focus on an Issue - Write about an issue in your life. 



Week of March 23, 2025: Informative Writing

- Strategy 1: Word Mapping - Create a map of ideas about your topic. 
- Strategy 2: Create Subtopics - Design subtopics that go with your main topic.

- Strategy 1: What If? - Think of something in your life and create a “what if …” story. 
- Strategy 2: If Only - Think of something you wished existed and write a story on how your life would be different.

- Strategy 1: Defining Moment - Write about a defining moment in your life. 
- Strategy 2: Storyboard - Create a storyboard to describe an event in your life. 



Week of April 13, 2025: How-To Informative Writing

- Strategy 1: Create a Diagram - Use a diagram to sequence your ideas. 
- Strategy 2: Create an Outline - Use an outline to sequence your steps. 



Week of April 20, 2025: Persuasive Writing

- Strategy 1: Make Your Point - Write out the important points in your persuasion. 
- Strategy 2: Change the World - Write a persuasive letter to change an important issue. 



Week of April 27, 2025: Informative Writing

- Strategy 1: Heart Mapping - Brainstorm what you love.
- Strategy 2: Favorite Object - Describe an object that is your favorite



Week of May 4, 2025: Opinion Writing

- Strategy 1: Opinion Web - Design reasons to support your opinion on a topic. 
- Strategy 2: Opinions in the Real World - Create an opinion on something in your community (restaurant, movie, book, etc.)



Week of May 11, 2025: Personal Narrative

- Strategy 1: Defining Moment - Write about a defining moment in your life.

- Strategy 1: BME - Organize a sequence into beginning, middle, and ending events.
