Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 8 - 11
Nivel Beginner - Intermediate
This 18-week, art-focused, self-paced class walks students through working in their visual journals, also called altered books or junk journals. Students will take a used hardback book and create works of art on the pages.

I recommend starting with my Intro to Visual Journals 1-week class or Intro to Visual Journals 18-Week course before starting this art class. The Intro level course walks students through selecting their book, preparing the book, and the basics of collaging. It helps to have the base knowledge taught in that course before jumping into this class. No art experience is needed to jump into visual journaling!

This art class is ideal for middle and high-school-age students. When I taught high school art this was often my students' favorite project. It's a space for students to learn and experiment with new art materials and techniques while expressing themselves creatively. This art project is all about personal taste, style, and aesthetic. It's perfect for students wanting to test out a range of art styles and materials.

18 lessons are included in this pack over the course of 18 weeks. The lessons focus on starting your visual journal, getting ideas and inspiration, collaging tips, and learning a wide variety of art materials and techniques. Once students review the material the homework is for them to take the materials and techniques reviewed in my demo video and test them in their own visual journal. If students complete one visual journal page a week they will complete this class in an 18-week period.

If students have questions or want feedback I will respond within 24 hours during the week and within 48 hours over the weekend.

Students will have access to demo videos, instruction guides, and more to walk them through the topics. They will see how I used the material or technique introduced in my personal visual journal that week. Students can work at their own pace during the week and weeks to complete their visual journal page.

Visual journaling offers a space for students to express themselves. This is incredibly important, especially for developing tweens and teens. Problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity are pushed in every assignment. I hope

Lección 1:
How to Use Colored Pencils
Students are introduced to six different ways to use colored pencils in their visual journal. A demo video walks students through the different techniques and reference guides are included for students to follow once they start working on their page.
Lección 2:
20. Roll-a-Design 3 Activity
Students leave their visual journal design up to chance by following my third roll-a-design guide. They roll a die for each step, which determines the color, materials, and subject for their work of art. This fun activity will push students to try designs they normally wouldn’t.
Lección 3:
Using Metallics
This week students are shown seven different materials to use to create a shiny, metallic-focused page in their visual journals. A demo video is included to show the variety of materials and reference guides help walk students through options as they begin working on their visual journal pages this week.
Lección 4:
Using Personal Pictutes
Students look to personal inspiration to create a visual journal page that incorporate pictures they have taken. Six techniques are covered to show a variety of ways pictures can be used. A demo video and reference guides help students understand how pictures can be used.

Orientación para padres
At times students will have the option to use material that may be messy, such as paint, or require adult supervision, such as an Xacto Knife. A range of materials is always introduced to allow students to select what interests them most. If you don't have access to supplies or prefer a supply isn't used I will recommend other options.
Requisitos previos
I recommend taking Intro to Visual Journals 1 week class or my Intro to Visual Journals 18-week class first. These courses walk students through how to select a book and create a collage. This course jumps right into working in a the book.
Lista de útiles escolares
Students will need physical supplies to complete assignments. Required materials include a used hardback book, magazines that can be cut up, scissors, glue, watercolor paint, water cups, paintbrushes, Sharpies, paint pens, and optional materials for this course depending on what students choose to focus on and what you have on hand at home.
