US Grade 4 - 7
The animal kingdom is a big and interesting world. In this FLEX class, students will become immersed in a basic and introductory exploration of zoology. We will begin by learning a little about classification, work on general and specific behaviours and features of animal species, and end with different careers you can pursue if zoology is your passion. **Please note: there are NO live lessons for this class. We will be following the below schedule: Week One: Intro to Zoology, Classification, Vertebrates Week Two: Invertebrates Week Three: Behavioural, Physical, and Physiological Adaptations Week Four: Symbiotic Relationships Week Five: Ecology (Ecosystems, Food Chains, Food Webs, Biodiversity etc.) Week Six: Careers and Studies in Zoology We will be working both independently and in a group setting. This is the best part about FLEX classes! Each Sunday afternoon (EST time), a pre-recorded video (touching on the basics of the scheduled topics) will be posted for students to watch. In addition, supplemental videos, optional homework assignments, tasks, fun activities, and discussion questions will be posted. Students are encouraged to complete the weekly assignments and tasks to get the most out of the course. **Please note that both the prerecorded videos and the supplementary videos will be via YouTube Throughout the course, online discussions will be prompted in the Outschool classroom. This will allow students to discuss ideas, concepts, and questions with their peers from around the world. In addition, I will be monitoring the classroom and supplying guidance throughout. I will be encouraging participation in the online discussions as much as possible but it is also a responsibility of the student to try and check in at least once a week. Although there will be an optional quiz for each week, the quiz for the sixth week will be cumulative and include 10 questions that cover everything learned in previous weeks. If this quiz (and/or any assignments or tasks are completed by the learners) I will be available to provide constant feedback. Learners will be assessed through these tasks and their participation in the online discussions. My goal is to make learning fun, exciting, and efficient. As such, you can expect responses to emails or inquiries within 24 hours (though usually much quicker). If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out! Class Photo by Holgi of Pixabay
