Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
By popular demand, this ornithology class takes my ‘Extraordinary Birds’ classes to the next level. Each week, we will be discussing in detail a certain theme involving ornithology. This could be a discussion/lesson on a certain group of birds, diving deeper into bird anatomy or physiology, IDing different species, looking at some careers involving birds or seeing what’s in the news regarding the world of birds. In addition to my own themes and ideas, students will also have input in the weekly topics as well.

Having worked with many birds including owls, ravens, hawks, and kookaburras, I will also be using personal experiences within the content when I can!

Each class will consist of opportunities for students to share and discuss what they know about the topic, but also time for more direct learning. Powerpoints may be included at times as well as YouTube videos, supplementary websites and pictures, however each class will vary and some may be more general chatter than others.

Parental Guidance
Topics will range in level of difficulty and some topics may be harder to understand than others depending on your learner's level. For example, bird respiration may include higher level terminology than a week talking about owls. In addition, some lessons may touch on evolution, predator/prey, and reproduction. Some news articles may also touch on the above when used. Youtube may be used at times to help create a multi-media approach

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a strong passion for animals and have even worked with many birds such as birds of prey, ravens, toucanets and kookaburras. I love getting others excited about the animal kingdom and feel as though I can approach this topic with a lot of fun and excitement for the learners.
