This is a flexible schedule course that meets asynchronously via the virtual classroom for six weeks. Assignments, along with an instructional video, will be posted every Sunday and due by the following Saturday. Students are expected to use the classroom in order to interact with each other and receive feedback from the instructor. The instructor will be checking in at least once/ day in order to encourage students and guide them through the writing process to a completed piece. After work is submitted each week, the instructor will return with written feedback and (if desired) a grade. WEEK ONE: Narrative writing prompt from Percy Jackson and the Olympians WEEK TWO: Descriptive writing prompt from Percy Jackson and the Olympians WEEK THREE: Informational writing prompt from Kane Chronicles WEEK FOUR: Persuasive writing prompt from Heroes of Olympus WEEK FIVE: Transactional Writing prompt WEEK SIX: Poetry prompt from the Trials of Apollo
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of the different modes of writing while using their favorite Riordan books as inspiration.
Other Details
Supply List
The instructor will provide all handouts required. The students should have some knowledge of the 5 novel series written by Rick Riordan. Ideally, they would have already read or listened to the books. If there is a series that the student does not like, they can choose to complete a different prompt for that week.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have a B.S. in Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in Special Education with a level 2 certificate as a Wilson Reading System instructor (a multi-sensory reading/phonics program). I taught second grade through eighth grade over the course of fifteen years in the public school system. Currently, I'm a homeschooling mother of three.
I have a passion for teaching Reading and Writing and trying to instill this passion in my students. I love the creative side of teaching and enjoy making my classes as interactive as possible.
If I am not teaching or spending time with my family, I can be found with my nose in a book or testing new allergy-friendly baking recipes!
I hope to see your learner in class soon!
