US Grade 4 - 7
These private lessons will use a structured literacy program based on phonological-coding research and Orton-Gillingham principles to directly and systematically teach the structure of the English language. Each session will be tailored to the individual learner's needs and interests while following a step-by-step process to teach the phonemic sounds, rules, and the six syllable types of the English language in a fun, multisensory manner. The class time will be very interactive and paced differently depending on the enrolled learner. Each session is loosely structured as follows: *Sound drill *Mini-lesson or review of the day's skill *Word work practice of the specific skill *Reading and/or writing practice *Game/ informal assessment/ progress monitoring This type of instruction has been found to aid in decoding and encoding skills for both struggling and emerging readers. These sessions can be a good fit for learners who are just beginning to read and struggling, learners in need of extra spelling help, learners already diagnosed with dyslexia, or those who have a specific reading disability and need some extra practice. *Cover art by Thomas Kolnowski
