Learners are introduced to descriptive, narrative, and persuasive paragraphs. They learn how to structure a paragraph, use appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and convey their ideas effectively. Taught by a licensed, expert writing teacher.

 Week 1
Lesson 1
Draft an Information Paragraph
Write a topic sentence, 3 supporting details, and a conclusion using the "hamburger method" for crafting an informational paragraph.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Write and Publish an Informational Paragraph
Learners will learn how to write a complex paragraph, add in transition words, revise/edit their paragraph, and publish/share their informational paragraphs for feedback.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Draft an Opinion Paragraph
Learners will learn about opinion writing. They will choose a persuasive writing prompt, develop their opinion (thesis,) reasons, examples, and restate their opinion (conclusion) using the OREO method.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Write and Publish an Opinion Paragraph
Learners will write their opinion paragraph, add in transition words, revise/edit their paragraph, and then publish/share for feedback.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Draft a Compare/Contrast Paragraph
Learners will read and learn about compare/contrast paragraphs. They will decide on two topics to compare/contrast. They will begin filling out a Venn Diagram with similarities and differences of their two topics.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Write and Publish a Compare/Contrast Paragraph
Learners will write their compare/contrast paragraph, add in specific transition words, revise/edit, and then publish/share their paragraph for feedback.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Draft a Short Story Realistic Narrative
Learners will study what narrative writing is and the elements in narrative writing. They will then complete a graphic organizer "story map" with characters, setting, important events, problem, and solution.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Write and Publish a Short Story Realistic Narrative
Learners will write their narrative, learn when to start new paragraphs, how to add in dialogue, and write their final copy for feedback.
This class is taught in English.
In this class learners are introduced to different types of paragraphs, such as descriptive, narrative, and persuasive. They learn how to structure a paragraph, use appropriate vocabulary and grammar, and convey their ideas effectively.

I have strict hiring standards and strive to only hire teachers I would feel comfortable teaching my own children on Outschool.
Homework Offered
Learners may need to finish their writing after class, or they may choose to compose additional pieces of writing. These can be submitted to the teacher for feedback.
