In this course, students will learn to use what I call 'starter words', a skill that will allow them to write above grade level.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
  • Students will be able to use 'starter words' to improve their writing. The starter words we will review in this class are: as, if, when, while, even though, though, before, after, despite, because, whenever, during, whether, in order (to), since, until.
I am a certified ELA teacher and taught in the classroom for three years. Beyond ELA specifically, I have over 10 years teaching experience in and outside of the classroom from preschool to high school age. I also have a TESOL certificate, a B.S. in Psychology and an M.A. in Intercultural Studies. 
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Learners will have an opportunity to demonstrate understanding throughout class via participation.
Students should have handouts printed off to use during class and a writing utensil. The handout(s) will be uploaded to the classroom page.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will use the handouts provided during class which include a list of the starter words and space for students to write. The handout(s) will be uploaded to the classroom page the morning of class.
