In this class, students will receive a general overview of the English 8 parts of speech (noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, interjection). This overview will include the definition of each part along with usage examples. The instruction will be presented using a PowerPoint presentation with colorful and meaningful text and images. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions as we discuss each part of speech. Prior knowledge of the 8 parts of speech is not a requirement for this class. However, many students by age 9 will have at least minimal awareness of these grammatical concepts. This class is meant to give a broad perspective of how the English language works and to pique the curiosity of students who may go on to study English grammar in a greater depth.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge and understanding of the 8 parts of speech in English grammar.

This class is being offered as an important segment in building a solid foundation of English grammar. Grammar has always been a skill set that I have taken ownership of and genuinely enjoyed. Consequently, implementing these skills has undergirded my ability to become an effective writer and teacher. Therefore, it is my goal to replicate my knowledge base into the minds of my students so that they too may strengthen their writing skills and overall understanding of the syntax of the English language.
