US Grade 2 - 5
I am an encouraging teacher that teaches with enthusiasm and gentleness. My goal is to inspire students to learn new skills with confidence and eagerness by involving them in the learning process and giving much opportunity for engagement. Learn about adverbs in a week! This great grammar class is for writing students who need help understanding one of the most challenging parts of speech, adverbs. Students will learn how to identify and use adverbs correctly with ease. Students in this class should have a firm understanding of complete sentences and already be writing short paragraphs independently. I will use a slide show that I share with students on the screen to provide instruction, modeling, clear examples, and space for students to contribute to class activities by annotating on the screen. I have created several helpful worksheets students will print at home and work through together in class to practice adverbs in a variety of ways to facilitate learning and mastery. I will assign short follow up assignment for students to work through between classes to reinforce learning. Each class I will introduce / review adverbs with a slide show using engaging visuals, clear examples, discussion, group activities, and plenty of opportunities to practice the skill independently in a supportive, encouraging environment. Students will have the opportunity to annotate on the screen, participate in discussions, share ideas, and ask/answer questions. Day 1: We will use an “I do, we do, you do” approach to instruct, model, and practice these new concepts. ~ Defining adverbs. ~ Learn how they modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. Day 2: Review of day 1 concepts. We will use an “I do, we do, you do” approach to instruct, model, and practice: ~ Understanding difference in purpose between adjectives and adverbs. ~ Understanding and using “Adverbs of Frequency” Day 3: Review of day 1 and 2 concepts. Supported practice of: ~ Identifying adverbs ~ Using adverbs correctly in sentences ~ Improving sentences with meaningful adverbs ~ Distinguishing adverbs from other parts of speech ~ Choosing precise adverbs to enhance imagery of sentences with descriptive language After these three days of studying adverbs, students will have a great understanding of this challenging part of speech.
