Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Join me in exploring strange and mysterious places that really exist, even though we do not understand them. Each week we will visit a different place. Here are a few:
Each week we will look at different mysterious sites around the world. The focus is on myths, legends, speculation and archeological and anthropological findings. These places have been chosen because little is actually known about their true origins. We will discuss where the sites are located, and finding them on a map. Next we will delve into legends, myths and speculation about the site. The last part of the class will be devoted to listening to one another develop their own theories about these mysterious places. The class combines active listening, group discussion, imaginative dialogue, and sometimes even fun games. Learners are encouraged to question and to contribute throughout the class.
Places we will visit:
December 1 Stonehenge
December 7 Atlantis
December 14 Bermuda Triangle
December 21 Yeti and Bigfoot
More topics will be added after these are completed to extend the class.

Class Structure: In the first part of class we will look at pictures of the site, learn a little about known facts from archeologists, anthropologists and other scientists. Then we will discuss where the sites are located, finding them on a map. Next we will delve into legends, myths and speculation about the site. I am a lifelong learner and have self-educated on many topics. I hold a Bachelors degree in education and have taught students - preschoolers, elementary students, middle school, and college for many years. More than anything else, I believe in instilling a love for learning, and that reading helps students develop a lifelong habit of learning. Giving students topics that will hold their interest and spark their imaginations is one way I do this. I have always loved delving onto mysteries and this is why I love teaching about the wonders of our world which includes mysteries such as these. This class has been taken by 22 learners and has a 5-Star rating.
