In this 10-week design course, learners will gain confidence in using Autodesk's beginner CAD drawing program TinkerCAD. The focus of this course will be on individual growth as designers, engineers, and artists. The course is split into two sections, the first half focusing on each individual's design skills with a new design challenge each week. Then the last 5 weeks will be focused on creating a larger project such as a space station, moon base, city, or zoo. We will discuss the engineering design process and put it into practice. Although there is structure to this course, I believe honoring learner's interest is the best way to teach them, so from time to time we may deviate from the course outline to follow student interests. For example, if the building prompt is vehicles and a learner wants to build a bird, I would encourage the learner to build their bird utilizing the skills we would otherwise use to build a vehicle. By honoring student choice my classes run smoothly and learners are more engaged in their projects. If this is an issue for your learner, please message me before enrolling. Week 1 How to use Tinkercad For novice engineers and building a name puzzle or maze for learners already familiar to TinkerCAD. Week 2 - independent project build an animal Week 3 - independent project build a building or shop Week 4 - independent project build a vehicle Week 5 - Building Challenge Not a (shape to be chosen by students) Week 6 Begin large scale project, independent learner choice or group project Week 7 - research and begin designing Week 8 design and build Week 9 build Week 10 building, sharing, and celebrating. Please note that I have a "Limited Refund policy". Due to the nature of this class, I cannot offer refunds outside of that policy. If you have need of a sibling or group discount please message me to check availability. Availability of sibling discounts varies depending on overall enrollment.
Learning Goals
Learners will:
Become confident in using TinkerCad for designing as well as 3D printing. (3D printer not required)
Understand and utilize the Engineering Design Process
Develop a portfolio of 3D designs.

Parental Guidance
The building topics in this class are very open-ended. This means that learners are welcome to interpret them as they please. Please talk with your learners about what to do if another student builds something you find uncomfortable such as; paintball courses, religious items, magical scenes, or orphanages. I am experienced in handling the discussion of these delicate topics but I err on the side of letting students discuss things as long as they are being respectful. If you have any concerns about this please message me before enrolling.
Supply List
Learners will need to create an account at TinkerCAD.com before the course starts. There is a verification for learners under 13 this can take between 24 hours and 3 weeks depending on where you live. If you need a temporary account for the first week please message me before the first class so I can set it up. Temporary accounts will be deleted every 3- 6 months. TinkerCAD is COPPA Compliant resource see this article for more information: https://blog.tinkercad.com/2013/07/30/whats-up-with-education-accounts. If a temporary account is needed while waiting for a parent-approved account for kids under 13 please message me for information. These temporary accounts will be deleted without notice frequently to ensure student safety and to comply with Outschool standards.
