Does your learner see word problems as a bore, or a chore? Well, NOT ANYMORE! As a child, I hated word problems! Now, as a teacher, I LOVE them! I have figured out strategies to make solving word problems fun and seamless. Come join us as we solve word problems together and then participate in a friendly Kahoot competition. Every week, students will learn about and practice solving word problems on a different topic. The best part, YOU choose what the FOUR topics will be! The options are: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, area/perimeter, or time. Just message me ahead of time with your choices! (Please note if I do not hear from you, the default topics that will be sent out are: multiplication, area, perimeter, time, and fractions). The class will begin by students watching me teach about word problem solving strategies. In addition, I will model solving two word problems using the strategies at hand. In order to continue to have exposure and practice, while having a blast, students will spend the rest of class participating in a fun game of Word Problem Kahoot. The benefit of this being a flex class is that students can watch and rewatch the video of me teaching and take their time during the Kahoot. They will have immediate feedback on how they are doing and they do not have the pressure of others. An optional worksheet with the word problems will be provided for each learner to use after class as additional practice. After every class, learners will fill out a Google Form to ensure completion and facilitate communication with me. I am available to answer any questions and support students as much as needed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn strategies in order to solve word problems successfully and efficiently.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. G and I am SO excited for the opportunity to work with children around the world through Outschool. I have a strong passion for giving children the best education possible and to make learning FUN! Ever since I began teaching, I feel incredibly fulfilled and I wake up excited every morning to go to school, NOT work. Teaching has never felt like a job to me, but a lifestyle; something that is just a part of who I am.
Through the platform of Outschool, I look forward to putting my own creativity to use and design fun, educational experiences. As of now, I am going to be teaching through the creative avenue of "escape rooms". Students will enter the fictional world of the STAR Students (Sophie, Trey, Anthony, and Rosa) of Galaxy Elementary School. These four students need the help of Outschool students to solve various mysteries that will be uncovered through clues. The only way to receive clues is by solving math problems and/or answering ELA questions. Outschool students will join the STAR students on an educational adventure during each one of my classes!!
I also have a strong passion for writing and specifically, supporting students by teaching strategies to help improve their writing. I love helping developing authors find their voice, creativity, and passion for writing!
A little bit about my professional background: I have experience as a third grade teacher of students with an IEP, Gifted and Talented students, and everyone in between. That being said, I am comfortable teaching a wide variety of grades and ages. While teaching, I served as my school's literacy and technology coach. This means I supported my colleagues as an instructional coach by providing professional development, coming into their classrooms to help their instruction, and opening my classroom doors for observation.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, a minor in Early Childhood Education and a certificate in Leadership. In 2020, I also obtained a Master's degree in Educational Leadership with a supervisor and principal certificate.
In September, I gave birth to a baby girl! I am currently on maternity leave but I miss teaching so much that I am excited to have the opportunity to teach online!
