Class Experience

Over this five-week course, learners will get to learn a bit about different types of maps as well as create their own. Maps show us how we see the world but are also an amazing way to express our own artistic style. During this class students will get a chance to create the following kinds of maps.
Week 1 November 1st: Treasure maps
*These will focus on old-style sailing and pirate maps.

Week 2 November 8th: House maps
*This will have a Home Alone interior-design themed artistic style. Students will learn about scale and mapping out their own homes.

Week 3 November 15th: Fantasy Map
*We will create some JR Tolkien themed fantasy maps this week with our wild imaginations.

Week 4 November 22nd: Scavenger hunt map
*This map is about setting up an adventure for your friends.

Week 5 November 29th: Game Map
*This week will be about getting ideas for creating your own game style of adventure map (wait and see).

This class is meant to be fun and relaxing and a time for students to explore their creative sides while also learning a bit of general cartography. So grab your pen and ruler and come join us for some map-making.

I've traveled the world teaching upper elementary for the last 15 years. I love working with students in project-based learning, social studies, math, and YouTubing/video editing.

I am a certified teacher for ages k-8 and have taught grades 4, 5, 6, and 7.

I believe education should be fun, relevant, challenging, and inquiry-based. I look forward to the chance to be your virtual teacher.
