Class Experience

In this class, you will learn the Basics of Crochet. We will cover how to select your yarn, hook, and pattern. We will also practice creating simple chains and begin a simple scarf. You will learn how to Tie Off your project when you reach the desired length. To complete this class you will need 1-2 skeins (balls) of Bulky (size 5) yarn, a 9 mm crochet hook and a measuring tape. Also, a comfortable place to sit while you work if possible.

You will need a webcam and video available to be on in order for me to help instruct you as you practice, and observe your work. You can turn your video on and off, if that is more comfortable, but I will need to be able to see you and your work throughout the course.

We will have fun learning this skill and I will be available for any questions after the class via email, or through enrollment in additional classes that I am offering on the Basics of Crochet.

Learning Goals

Students will practice their fine motor skills in the manipulation of the yarn and hook. They will practice math skills in stitch counting, and measurement to determine their desired outcome of their scarf.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi Friends! I am so excited to meet you!

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, and I was a public school educator for 6 years. I taught 4th and 2nd grade regular education classroom teacher. I was also the after school care director for 2 years. where I offered after school tutoring in reading, writing, and math.

I left the public school sector and took a job as the lead teacher at a preschool for the 3 year old class. I taught them skills to improve their fine and gross motor skills. I also lead them in activities that helped reinforce the mind-body connections in their developing brain. Shortly after this, I decided to take a break from the workforce to stay home with my newborn and 2 year old, while helping my 6 year old adjust to the public school setting. After a year in public school, my daughter needed a different environment of learning, so I began homeschooling my her and continued down this homeschool journey for the next 7 years. My 2nd daughter went to school for a year, but due to her own difficulties with language building and comprehension, I decided to go the homeschool route with her as well, so that she could get more one-on-one instruction to continue to develop her reading, writing and language skills. I also tutored elementary-aged students and volunteered childcare with preschool activities for a few families in my neighborhood. This helped my children continue to develop their socialization skills, while building relationships and learning through age-leveled hands-on activities to develop their reading, math, and writing skills. My eldest daughter returned to public school for her High School years and my other two children decided to return to public school for a change of pace as well.

Alongside homeschooling, I volunteered as the Children’s Ministry Director at my church. I taught Sunday school classes, AWANA Sparks class on Wednesday nights, created and managed programs, recruited volunteers, lead Bible studies with parents, ordered curriculum, managed a budget and lead meetings for the Children’s Ministry team. I also lead workshops for volunteers and led parent meetings.

Now that my kids are on new school journeys, I am so excited to use my skills to educate your children in the art of Crochet, share some of my favorite books for those that love reading, and introduce your kids to the exciting world of Science with experiments they can do right in their own kitchen!

Fun Fact: I have traveled a lot in my life. I lived in Germany between the ages of 2-6 years old, and went to Brazil for a mission trip for 2 weeks.
