Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
SUMMER BREAK SESSION

NOTE: I will refund for weeks families are on vacation - please notify me by Sunday that fee is paid.

This is a great summer fun class for kids entering grades 3-6 Social a studies / American History in the Fall.

This social studies camp-style class is for families who would like their learners to have a fun introduction or review for American History: colonial times through the revolutionary war and how our country was started.

*** During this time in history, there were a lot of events, people and dates to remember and it truly takes hearing the lessons a number of times before a student gains proficiency in this area. ***

Specific areas that will be covered are:

13 colonies
King George III and why he needed money
Taxes, taxes, taxes! (Lead up to the war)
Intolerable Acts & the Boston Tea Party
Revolutionary War

IF TIME PERMITS…
Articles of Confederation
US Constitution Overview: why was it written?

This class will be hands-on as I believe kids will retain information better when they can create a picture, craft or project. This will also allow them to have something in the future to look back on.

**If you are in one of my social studies classes that covers the Revolutionary War, activities in this summer camp will be different. FOR THIS SUMMER I AM GOING TO MAKE THIS CLASS MORE ARTS & CRAFTS BASED.

Ask about sibling discounts! I am a dedicated, fun and full-time Outschool teacher and am licensed in the United States. I have worked in different capacities with children and families for more than 20 years. I am especially passionate about early intervention: academic, social-emotional and learning disabilities. I also love to challenge accelerated students so they do not become bored with learning. Earning a master’s degree in art therapy in 2005, I began my career with children as an art therapist working in residential facilities. My specialty was treating children (ages 5 to 17) who had experienced trauma. Moving to Utah in 2009, I became part of a school teaching children with high functioning autism and pursued a teaching license in special education. I spent eight years teaching first grade prior to assuming the role of K-6 Academic Achievement Specialist. I combined the skills and modalities I acquired first in art therapy and then developed further in teaching. I am Orton-Gillingham certified to help struggling readers succeed. My preference is to use hands-on and “active” experiences to help children meet their individual, social and academic needs. I grew up in the South Pacific on an island called Kwajalein which gave me my love of traveling and experiencing different cultures. My dog, Chiara, was rescued from a small village in Italy when she was a pup. She even has an Italian Passport! I’m excited to be apart of the Outschool family!
