1 hour per week. The only homework students will receive is to complete their reading for the day if they do not complete it during class time. This will be a max of 20 minutes a day of reading.Assessment
Students will be assessed informally throughout this course. As their instructor I will listen to their reading, check on their phonics daily and ask them comprehensive questions on our reading to help gage their understanding.Class Experience

✅ Welcome! This is our daily reading class to help your studen|t stay on track during the summertime. 📚 This is a great way to keep your student on track with their reading during the summer months. It is proven that students drop reading levels during this time of year so this is a great way to keep them going in the summer for 25 minutes a day 5 days a week. This class is designed for Kindergartens going into 1st grade and 1st graders going into 2nd grade. 📝 Class structure: Welcome-This gives time to check in with each other and create a class culture. Review of reading from day before (comprehension) Word work (phonics/phonemic awareness) Popcorn read a chapter (fluency) Go over new words (vocab) Give reading for evening. ✏️ We will have 4 chapter books we will go through in this 6 week course. Each day will look different but will follow the structure listed above. 📆 Schedule: Week 1: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This week we will take time to get to know each other as a class and check on some summer goals we have. We will also be starting our first book that we have all purchased ahead of class. We will work through our first book in this week. Week 2: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This week we will be checking in on each others goals using the SMART goal method. We will continue with our first book and be finishing our first book this week. Week 3: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This week we will be starting our 2nd book. Week 4: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This week we will be wrapping up our 2nd book and writing a brief summary of the book. Week 5: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This week we will be starting our 3rd book and checking in our goals that we have set. Week 6: Monday-Friday (25 Minutes) This will be our final week of class. We will be wrapping up our 4th and final book for the summer as well as having a celebration of finishing this course and accomplishing the goals we have set for ourselves at the beginning of the summer.
