Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 5
In this class, I design and teach reading/writing lessons that help build reading, comprehension, and writing skills. The reading lessons are largely built around topics of interest to the learner so that while the learner is building critical reading, comprehension, grammar, and writing skills--they are also recognizing that the process of learning is rewarding. All of this is done in an effort to address where the parent sees possible gaps in their student's learning and/or confidence level in reading/comprehension/writing. My teaching style is very student centered, as I believe students need to feel invested in their own learning no matter their age and feel that, while they are working to build their skill level, the lessons are also interesting, relevant, and relatable to their experiences.

Topics include:
Fluency
Enhancing Vocabulary
Written Expression
Phonemic Awareness
Motivating learners to read/expanding literacy horizons
Text Comprehension Skills including, comparing and contrasting; making inferences; summarizing, drawing conclusions; distinguishing between fact and opinion; finding the main idea, supporting details, and important facts.
