The spelling of homonyms and homophones, words that have the same pronunciation but different spellings and meanings, can be tricky to remember. In this class, students will learn mnemonic devices and visual spelling clues to help them distinguish between pairs of homonyms and homophones. Students will learn the spelling of 32 pairs of homophones, by attuning to visual clues and mnemonic devices in each word.
Allison Woolley has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis. She has homeschooled her children from kindergarten through high school and has used the homonym spelling tips taught in this class successfully with her own children. Her experience also includes tutoring English Language Arts to 2nd – 6th graders and teaching other subjects and leading groups for children in pre-K through 10th grade.
Homework Offered
Students should plan to watch the video then complete the partnering worksheet posted in the Classroom and make their word and picture flashcards as modeled in the lesson video twice a week. Students should post their worksheets and image of their flashcards to the Classroom for teacher feedback. Additionally, students should review & use their flashcards several times a week.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
