Beginner - Intermediate Level
Welcome to spelling class! This class is tailored to address your child's specific spelling needs inspired by the Orton-Gillingham approach, known for its multi-sensory techniques. Students will acquire new spelling skills through a multisensory approach incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning methods. This method is especially beneficial for students facing difficulties with dyslexia, or any spelling learning needs. After each session, a summary of our discussions and the week's goals will be posted on the classroom page. Weekly reviews reinforce previously covered material and guide progress to the next stages. Students are encouraged to review weekly concepts and words throughout each week. Teaching Style: Your student will find my teaching style fun and enjoyable, with each session designed around their learning style. Sessions are structured, incorporating engaging activities and games that make learning feel like play within a clear and organized framework. I use explicit instruction to clearly explain concepts and rules, ensuring student success. Learning is incremental, with each lesson building on the previous one, allowing students to progress confidently and master each skill thoroughly. Topics will include: Spelling strategies - students will learn how to identify syllables in words (both open and closed) and how to spell one syllable at a time. Word segmentation and phonograms- students will learn to identify each sound in a word as words are spelled. Morphological analysis - students will learn prefixes, suffixes, roots and inflections Letter and sound relationships - Students will learn the relationships between letters and their corresponding sounds. Plural Forms - students will learn how to identify plural words and how spelling will change in both regular and irregular plural forms.
