Class Experience

Students will come together for 25 minutes each week to develop their social skills and foster social connections. Students will participate in group discussions, enjoy engaging activities, and interact with their peers. Each class will start with warm greetings and a feelings check-in before transitioning to a show and tell session. Following this, we will engage in a group game, discussion, or activity.

These classes offer more than just fun; they provide an opportunity to develop essential friendship and social skills. These skills include building confidence when communicating with other children, active listening, asking and answering questions, and practicing turn-taking.

For the show and tell segment, I have suggested a theme, but students are encouraged to share whatever interests them. There is no pressure to adhere to the theme, as the classes are a fun chance for students to share what they love.

Week 1 (Jan 29 - Feb 4): Show off your favourite toys.
Week 2 (Feb 5-11): Arts/drawings/ crafts - Show us your creative work.
Week 3 (Feb 12-18): Show or tell us about your favourite food.
Week 4 (Feb 19-25): Dress Up Tea Party (bring something special)
Week 5 (Feb 26-Mar 3): Talent celebrations - tell us a joke, show us your dance move, football skills etc.
Week 6 (Mar 4-10): Little bakers - show us something you have made (picture or actual item) or tell us about what you would like to make!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Alison, and I'm thrilled to be here to guide your child on a journey of enhancing their friendship and social skills. With over 16 years of experience as a School Counselor, Special Educational Needs Coach, and School Social Worker, I'm dedicated to teaching social, emotional, and well-being skills to children and young people.

During the last decade, I've worked as an international school counselor. I have frequently conducted individual and group sessions covering a range of topics, including social skills, friendship skills, promoting esteem, anger management, self-regulation, executive functioning, self-control, ADHD/Autism support, and understanding / responding to strong feelings.

I have been teaching social, emotional, well-being and character development for most of my career. To support this work, I have been trained in and utilize various accredited social and emotional programs, including Zones of Regulation, Kelso's Choices, and Second Step. These programs have also played a key role within my lessons as they promote emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

I have spent a number of years working with students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The focus of my work was on developing their executive functioning, social skills, and academics.
