1 hour per week. Students are encouraged to explore with their cameras between and after class, but they are not prompted to take or turn in any photos. They will be invited to share favorite exploratory shots in the classroom.Class Experience
This class is a great introduction for students who have just begun exploring their cameras. It provides information that can be referenced as they continue to use their cameras. This class is information-packed, but does not require students to take or turn in any photos. They will be invited to share exploratory shots in the classroom. It is focused on understanding the main mechanisms and settings of the camera broadly, kind of like a two day "tour" of your camera. Class 1: Batteries, Memory Cards, File Transfer Shooting Mode Dial Shutters -- Drive & Shutter Release Modes: Single shot vs Continuous Shooting Focus Points & Focus Modes Class 2: Exposure and How a Camera Works: ISO, Aperture, and Shutter Speed P, A, S and M / P, Av, Tv, and M Modes What Makes Photography Art? This class will work well for continuing on to the popular 101/201/301 classes, if students are wanting to continue, and will also set students up to excel in experimenting on their own!
Learning Goals
Students will learn their way around their DSLR camera, and will be prepared to embark on further learning with greater ability to express what they want to learn more about.
They will understand
- File storage, transfer, and battery charging practices
- The shutter and the different ways it can be triggered.
- The standard options on a Shooting Mode dial
- The different ways a camera can focus
- The basics of exposure -- how light is seen by a camera
- The mechanisms of P, A, S and M / P, Av, Tv, and M Modes
- The basic principles of photography as a creative art
