Class Experience

I am so excited to share a long form introduction to all things photography!

First of all, who am I and why am I here to teach photography?
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for just over 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, nature and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography!

In this class we will have weekly projects that will help learners of all photographic experience levels grow as photographers. We'll start at the beginning. What is the history of photography? How has the technology changed and where is it going next? We'll work on not only getting to know our cameras, but also make wonderful portfolios all our own!

Please note, while most of my classes are flexible on enrollment, due to the length of this class, it will not move ahead if at least 3 learners have not signed up. I will contact the adults to inform them of the situation before the scheduled date to begin.

Week 1: Introductions and getting to know our class. (please come to class with at least one photo you have made in the past.)
Week 2: Film to digital photography
Week 3: The differences between our cameras. Point + shoot, Smart phones, DSLR, Mirrorless and more
Week 4: Photographers to inspire us and photographers in history
Week 5: Mistakes many photographers make and how to correct them and learn from them
Week 6: Framing and Composition
Week 7: Lighting
Week 8: Our Subjects
Week 9: Editing
Week 10: Portfolio Building
Week 11: Jobs in photography
Week 12: How the industry changes with new technology
Week 13: Critiques and why they are important
Week 14: Photographing in our own style
Week 15: Final project presentations and wrap up.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I will ask that all students share photos, but I do expect all students to bring photos that are free of any explicit content or violence of any kind. Please make sure that your learner's computer permissions allow for screen sharing. If you are not comfortable with your learner sharing screen to share their photos, they are welcome to send their photos to me (through Outschool) and I will share my screen for them.
Supply List
A camera will be necessary for this class. A smart phone will be fine, but please note, I will be going over information for all cameras in class so there will be some cameras that allow more flexibility than others. DSLR cameras for example offer more flexibility and we will go over that in class. I will of course go over the options for smart phones and point and shoot cameras.
Editing software of some kind will be needed as well. Editing software that comes with our computer/tablet will be fine! I will be using Adobe Lightroom and photoshop for my demonstrations, but I will not require an adobe subscription. (If you are interested in an adobe subscription, it is $19.99 usd / month for both lightroom and photoshop as a package. It is not a required subscription though. (This cost is for students and all learners should qualify for this)

Hello there!
Who am I?!
Hi! I'm Tamea! I'm a photographer and I have been a professional photographer for more than 10 years. In that time I am proud to have been published in Billboard Magazine, in Calendars, on clothing and merchandise, and publications around the world. I specialize in travel, live events, and portrait photography and I bring each of these specialities to my classes. I have been teaching and sharing my love of photography for years, and I am glad to be here to share my love of photography with your learner!

Thanks to wonderful teachers I have had in my life, I went from taking pictures and developing them in a dark room for fun, to taking pictures that were published around the world.

I welcome you to see my work at photobytamea.com. While we will focus on many kinds of photography in class, you can see samples of my own work here.

In my photography classes, I will use hands on activities and kind critiques to advance learning and confidence in taking pictures.

When I am not here, I am always with my cameras and take pictures even on my days off. My favorite photo adventures always include my puppy, Chaplin, who loves to tag along. She will be in some of my photo examples in classes. She's a cutie!

General Class Policies:

- Most important! My classroom is a safe and inclusive place! Learners are expected to treat each other with kindness and respect. Bullying will not be tolerated and I reserve the right to remove any student who treats other learners disrespectfully.
- If a scheduled class does not meet the minimum enrollment, I may contact the parent approximately 24 hours before class time to offer to either transfer their learner to a new day and time. If requested, I may choose to teach the class at the original time.
- Classes will begin on time, even if all learners have not yet arrived.
- If no learners are present in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes into the scheduled time before exiting the classroom. This will be considered a Student no show.
- If I am late because of having technical challenges myself, I will offer to stay late to make up the missed time, or transfer learners to a new session.
-Please note: Outschool requires verification of each learner. This means that unless Outschool has verified your learner, I will require learners to turn on their live cameras for a beginning of class check in. If cameras are not working or learners are not comfortable with this, please contact Outschool help for verification before class begins. Learner's may be placed in the waiting room while they are resolving their camera issues. I will not offer transfers or refunds in the event that this policy is not followed. This is for the safety and security of learners on the platform.
