Did you know that major cosmetic brands like Unilever, Estée Lauder, and L'Oreal have targeted Gen Z as the next big market for skincare? With powerhouse brands now marketing to tweens and teens, and YouTube/TikTok/Instagram skinfluencers getting paid to promote product lines, it's hard to know which products really work and what a teenager actually needs for their skin. If you're not a skincare junkie, or even if you are, it's overwhelming! This class will help you understand the skin you're in. Our skin is our largest organ and is often neglected. Everyday skincare is a skill that doesn't take much effort, but sometimes we just don't know where to start.

Topics covered in this class:
1. What’s the science? We will go over the basics of the skin so that there is an understanding of why the skin behaves the way that it does.
2. How to analyze your own skin - I will teach you how to feel and see the difference in skin types. (oily, dry, combination)
3. Skincare Products and Ingredient Lists- there are too many options!! Help! (serums, moisturizers, treatments, masks, face wash...)
4. The correct order to apply skincare products onto the skin

There will be some slides, videos, and images that we will walk through to learn about the skin.

Please note: I am not a dermatologist, so if there are questions about prescription topical/oral medications or procedures, then I will advise you to discuss those with a doctor.

Learning Goals

My goal is to give you confidence in your skincare choices!

By the end of this class you will know the following:
1. Your skin type (oily, dry, combination)
2. The factors that can affect your skin and how (diet, stress, hormones)
3. What to look for when reading an ingredient list
4. The order to correctly apply products.

We will do some fun skincare myth busting along the way! (For example: Toothpaste will not help get rid of zits, don't use it on your face!)

Handheld Mirror
I request that learners come to class with clean skin and no makeup on.
If there are skincare products that are used regularly, bring those to class so we can look at the ingredient lists to understand what is in them.
