Leslie Christian
Average rating:4.8Number of reviews:(42)
Students with Autism will convene to share experiences and meet others like them. They will choose one item to show to the class and tell them about it. The purpose of the class is to normalize the experience and practice social skills.

Class experience

By the end of the class, learners will have built a sense of belonging by meeting others who have Autism. They will have practiced discussion skills (such as speaking, listening and affirming others with a shared experience). Additionally, they will learn demographic facts about it around the world.
As a certified special educator with 11 years of experience, I’ve worked intensely with students with Autism in the classroom. I’ve participated in many training sessions for people with disabilities, including the START Project that focuses on Autism exclusively. I’ve had many experiences with people with Autism, including living with a relative who was on the spectrum. I’ve read a variety of books on topics concerning Autism such as diet, behavior and personal stories. This combination of personal and professional experience gives me the expertise to teach this class well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
