Let’s get your young learner ready for preschool by practicing listening and speaking skills, learning to follow directions, expanding vocabulary, and learning about real-world topics! In this ongoing class, young learners will get the chance to build vocabulary through a fun and engaging class with other children. This class is a great way to get your young learner practicing listening and speaking skills and following directions in a class setting. There will be some reading and math skills integrated into each lesson, regardless of the topic, but only as a part of our fun discussion together. I LOVE building vocabulary with young learners through play, stories, toys, and fun! In this one-time class, each class offered will be different as we focus on a specific theme and build knowledge of related vocabulary words through discussion and the use of fun props! Learners will be encouraged to practice speaking in complete sentences when sharing, and I will guide them toward that goal as we talk together. Examples of topics for vocabulary taught in this class may include: Colors Shapes Weight Size Weather Meals and Food Actions Tools Animals/Habitats Things in our home Numbers/Counting Letters *** (In this class, we will only focus on discussing the CONCEPT of letters during that topic and differentiate between what is a letter and what is a number. If you would like your child to learn and focus on individual letters and sounds for beginning reading skills, I encourage you to check out my “Letter Experts: Letter Recognition, Sounds, & Handwriting With Show and Tell!” ongoing class for ages 3-6!) Each class will follow the format below. -Greeting/Good Morning Song -Weather -Introduction of Topic/Class Discussion *Learners will have chances to speak as a group and individually (if they choose) during this time. -Show and Tell -Goodbye! I will plan for time at the end of each class for students to present a “show and tell” item. This can be anything your child wants to share (as long as it is safe and appropriate). This is an opportunity for your child to practice using the vocabulary we have discussed in the class and complete sentences with descriptive words. I will ask questions to prompt ideas and model/guide speaking for your child if needed! It is perfectly fine if you have a shy learner and they choose not to speak. I will still encourage, ask questions, and model sharing in complete sentences for your child if there is something they would like to show the class. If your child would like to share something with the class, come prepared with the item nearby so that it is quickly and easily available for our show and tell. All learners will be included in questions/discussion about each item, so if your child does not have an item to share, that is also just fine! There will still be learning happening during this time. If we do not use all of our show and tell time at the end, we will use any extra time left to expand on our topic/vocabulary from the class and have fun! Teacher expertise and credentials
Texas Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and am certified in EC-6 (Early Childhood through 6th grade) and ESL (English as a Second Language) . I taught kindergarten for four years, and I have experience in and a passion for teaching early elementary skills. During my time as a teacher, I have worked with elementary students of all ages through whole class, small group, and one-on-one settings. I believe that reading is an important foundation for so many other skills, and building vocabulary at a young age is a huge part of beginning that road to success. I am excited to use my knowledge to teach young learners in a fun way! Thank you for considering me as an Outschool teacher for your child!
