If you love sharks, this is the class for you! Learners can bring a shark toy to class so that share with others. Learners will begin class with a fun song about sharks to engage them! We will read a story about a shark who has a problem called, "Nugget and Fang: Friends Forever--or Snack Time?" by Tammi Sauer. Learners will be encouraged to share connections, ask questions, and make predictions about the story. After the story, learners will draw a shark. They can choose to follow along to a directed drawing or use their creativity to draw freely. Next, we will learn about the digraph SH. Learners can practice writing the letters sh and learn the sound that goes with SH. Finally, if time allows, I have a fun shark game where learners can pick a number 1-10 and get a shark or a star!
Learning Goals
Learners will practice their social skills by talking with friends and taking turns listening and speaking.
Learners will practice counting skills and one to one correspondence.
Learners will practice singing and rhyming.
Learners will practice recognizing the letters "sh" and the sound that goes with sh. This builds knowledge of phonics.
Learners will practice their creativity and fine motor skills by drawing.

Hello! I am Kristen Galloway. I am a curious life long learner, and I want to share my love of learning with others! I am passionate about making learning fun, engaging, and relevant. I want to meet each child where they are developmentally and be a part of their journey of discovery. With a background in general education, I love to teach lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, science, social studies. Learners should feel comfortable and welcome in the classroom. I think it is important to make learning a personal experience for each learner. I encourage each student to share their thinking. I work create a space where learners feel comfortable to learn. In order for every child to flourish they need to be seen, heard, and loved.
I believe in building relationships with my students and making learning engaging and connected to their lives. I use a multi-sensory approach to learning. I incorporate multiple domains throughout my lessons. I love to have fun in the classroom through conversations, games, and hands-on learning.
I have a Bachelor's of Science and a Master of Arts in Education. I have my TEFL and TESOL certifications. For the past 14 years, I have taught every grade from PreK-4th grade, sponsored a 3rd-5th grade STREAM club and a K-5 book club. I have also taught English online since 2019.
I have a 21 year old daughter, a 7 year old son, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and an axolotl. In my spare time, I love to read, play card and board games, hike, and watch movies. We love to travel and explore, and enjoy the journey as much as the destination!
