In this lesson, students will explore various literacy skills through engaging, shark-themed activities. Topics will include sentence structure, spelling, vocabulary, and fact comprehension. Students will practice sentence correction by identifying and fixing jumbled or incorrect sentences about sharks. They’ll reinforce spelling and vocabulary through unscrambling shark-related words and creating a shark-themed Mad Lib, encouraging creative language use. Comprehension skills will be enhanced with a Shark Fact Sentence Challenge, where they’ll form sentences based on shark facts, and flashcards for Q&A will reinforce shark knowledge. Finally, they’ll create a shark poster, combining facts and sentences to showcase what they’ve learned. The class is structured to be flexible, allowing students to dive deeper into activities they’re particularly engaged in. I use a blended teaching style, combining direct instruction, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities to meet each learner’s needs. I’ll guide students through each shark-themed activity using a shared screen, interactive whiteboard, and open discussion. Throughout the class, I will encourage them to ask questions and share their thoughts. Although we may not cover every activity I have prepped, students will get plenty of opportunities to interact through games, sentence correction challenges, and vocabulary exercises, keeping the class dynamic and responsive to their interests.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Central Missouri
I have taught my twins and children in public schools a variety of language arts skills. I have taught in multiple states and am aware of the state standards that schools require in different grades. My expertise and bachelor's degree in education qualifies me to teach language arts skills for grades K-6th. My background with homeschooling my twins, who are now doing 7th grade work, and other homeschool students has allowed me to practice reading comprehension and writing skills on a daily basis. Between my professional experience before having children and being the primary teacher for my children since covid, I am well qualified to teach any language arts skills to elementary and middle school aged children.
