Welcome to Meaning Miners! This online class is designed for learners who are ready to dig deep into novels, increase their vocabulary, and practice strategies to increase reading comprehension. Unlock the world of reading in this dynamic class designed to boost comprehension skills through engaging novels, interactive activities, and creative challenges! Learners will dive into carefully chosen novels that inspire curiosity and critical thinking while exploring a variety of comprehension strategies. These strategies include making predictions, visualizing scenes, asking and answering questions, identifying main ideas and details, summarizing, inferring, and making connections to the text. Each session includes guided discussions and thought-provoking questions to ensure learners understand the text while building their confidence as readers. To make learning fun and engaging, the class features optional creative projects, virtual quiz games, and exciting virtual escape rooms. Learners will apply their comprehension skills in these activities, working individually or collaboratively to solve puzzles, answer trivia, and complete challenges inspired by the story themes. Projects may include creating visual storyboards, designing alternative book covers, or writing letters from the perspective of characters. Virtual quiz games provide friendly competition to reinforce comprehension concepts, while escape rooms allow learners to use their critical thinking skills to "unlock" story mysteries. This class fosters a love of reading while equipping learners with tools to tackle complex texts confidently. All learners are welcome and encouraged to participate in an inclusive and supportive environment where creativity and learning go hand in hand. By the end of the course, learners will develop and apply a range of comprehension strategies to understand and enjoy novels, strengthen their ability to discuss and analyze literature, and collaborate and think critically in fun, interactive settings. They will also build confidence and a lifelong appreciation for reading. This class is perfect for learners who love stories, enjoy solving puzzles, or want to sharpen their reading comprehension skills in a fun and engaging way!
