Come to Coding Camp and have some fun! ScratchJr utilizes block programming to allow children to create their own imaginative stories and games. My style of teaching is very interactive and engaging. Each student will be able to share and express themselves as they feel comfortable. Each lesson will leave them excited to create projects using the coding knowledge they acquired in class. The curriculum focuses on building on students’ knowledge of ScratchJr in order to ease their transition into learning Scratch in future grades. This is one of the very few classes designed for grades K-3. The general outline will be as follows: Lesson 1: Starry Night - Coders learn how to use repeat forever blocks with loops and control blocks to create a simulated environment. The purpose of this project is to introduce new blocks and block combinations that are triggered by the green flag. Lesson 2: Animal House - Coders use a variety of blocks and sprites to create their own interactive diorama about animals on a farm. The purpose of this project is to introduce coders to the sound blocks. Lesson 3: Outer Space - Coders use a variety of blocks and sprites to create their own interactive diorama on outer space. The purpose of this project is to continue applying understanding from previous projects. Lesson 4: Ant Maze - Coders learn to use messaging control blocks to create a character that can move through a maze. The purpose of this project is to demonstrate how games are created and controlled. Lesson 5: We will finish the Ant Maze and show off any projects that students created on their own. This will be a Show and Tell type class. There will be time for troubleshooting each other's projects and answering any questions students may have. ScratchJr is a free app available on iPads, Android tablets, and Chromebooks. Learning Goals
Develop programs with sequences and simple loops, to express ideas or address a problem. Develop plans that describe a program’s sequence of events, goals, and expected outcomes. Identify and fix errors using a systematic process. Using correct terminology, describe steps taken, and choices made during the iterative process of program development. Create several computational artifacts for practical intent, personal expression, or to address a societal issue.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of California, Santa Barbara
Great teachers form strong relationships with their students by engaging them in the subjects they are passionate about. I have always been a logical thinker who enjoys science, math, technology, and engineering both for work and play.
I worked as an engineer for companies like Frito-Lay, Anheuser-Busch, Amgen as a consultant for many years improving their systems with automation and equipment. Once I became a parent, I began teaching extra-curricular classes as a way to have more time at home, but stay involved in subjects that bring me joy.
Realizing that by being warm, professional, and enthusiastic, I am able to engage students. My creative lessons and strong classroom presence help build student confidence while increasing interest in subjects that may otherwise seem intimidating.
