Class Experience

Bring your ideas to life—one frame at a time!
In this exciting weekly class, learners will explore the world of 3D animation using Blender, the powerful (and free!) software used in real video games and animated films. Each week, we focus on a new project or animation skill—perfect for creative kids who love Pixar, Roblox, Minecraft, or making their own stories come alive!

💡 What Learners Will Do
Animate characters and props using Blender’s tools

Learn keyframes, timelines, and object motion

Use bones and rigging to animate characters

Explore physics simulations (cloth, bounce, etc.)

Create camera movements and scene lighting

Export animations as videos or GIFs

🎨 Sample Weekly Projects
Each week features a guided animation exercise. Projects rotate so students can jump in anytime:

A bouncing ball with squash and stretch

A waving flag using cloth simulation

A cartoon-style character walk cycle

Spinning props like swords or gears

A simple animated scene with camera movement

👨‍🎓 Who This Class is For
Ages 10–14 who love art, animation, or storytelling

Creative learners who enjoy making things move!

💻 What You’ll Need
A computer (Windows or Mac) with Blender installed

A mouse (recommended for Blender navigation)

Ability to follow multi-step instructions

No prior Blender experience needed—just curiosity!

🙋‍♂️ About the Teacher
I’ve taught 3D art and animation to over ___ learners on Outschool, helping young creators take their first steps into digital design and storytelling. Whether you're brand new or already exploring Blender, this class is a welcoming space to learn, create, and have fun!

Note: Any student that arrives more than 15 minutes late will NOT be allowed to enter class, as late

Learning Goals

Students will learn to make simple animations and use their creativity to make each animation their own by adding their own twists to each idea.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Animations may depict fire, explosions, and laser blasters but will never include violence to people or animals, or any creatures.

Hi, my name is Christopher Walls.

I believe learning should be fun, interactive, and engaging. Classes should be hands-on.

I am a professional 3D modeler and teach ESL online. I have been working as a 3D modeler for over 13 years. I work for a company that makes air traffic control simulators. I get to make video games that train and educate people I love it so much. I have always had a passion for video games and making cool things I am excited to share my knowledge with others who want to make cool things.

I have been working with kids in some capacity for most of my life. I have worked as a summer camp counselor for over 10 years. In college I volunteered at a local high school where I taught students how to use photoshop, make websites and 3D models. I have 3 years of experience teaching online as an English teacher to foreign students.

I graduated from the University of Central Florida (2005) with a BA in Digital Media and a Masters Degree (2007) in Modeling and Simulation.
