US Grade 4 - 7
Do you have a passion for nature and wildlife conservation? Are you inspired by some of the young people who aren't waiting to grow up to make a difference? If you have ever wanted to do more to protect nature and wildlife, but just didn't know how to get started, this is the class for you. My aim is to support and guide young people who are itching to DO something and who have an interest in creating and pursuing their unique projects to protect nature and endangered wildlife. This class is where kids learn what it takes to get something done. The idea is to inspire them to think outside the box and come away feeling like anything is possible. I will share some inspiring stories about young people who have started projects or planned/participated in events. Then I will walk learners through the nuts and bolts of planning, finding help, setting goals, following through with an idea and even working with the media. I’ll also talk about roadblocks and trepidations. They will be reassured to know that most adults also struggle with this! As someone who started protecting wildlife at a young age, (and then became a wildlife biologist and environmental educator), I am available after this one-time class for one-on-one tutoring to continue to help and support your learner with projects they want to develop. I also may be able to connect learners to people who are working in the specific fields they are interested in. It is my sincere desire to help kids do something with their concerns about conservation issues and to have an early, positive experience with being a changemaker.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I pursued a career in wildlife science and environmental communications after deciding at 8 years old that I wanted to 'save all the animals'. I know what it feels like to want to DO something from an early age! Kids have so many more options and ideas now and many are ready to make an impact. I have done everything from wildlife field research, to working in environmental education at World Wildlife Fund, the Smithsonian National Zoo and National Audubon Society. It is my hope that I can ignite your learner's interest in getting more involved in nature and wildlife conservation.
