Like the world above ground, the soil is buzzing with life. Students will explore the soil food web and define each of the interactions that take place within its functioning system. Students will understand why the soil food web is so important to ecosystems and how it also influences soil health. .A big glass jar or clear plastic container with lid .Enough of the following ingredients to fill your jar: .Sand and small stones of varying sizes .Soil from outside or composted (chemical free) soil .Grass clippings and leaves .Vegetable peelings (optional)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Scientific terminology will be used throughout the class to discuss the soil food web. Students may need to be supervised with soil around their device.
