6 in-class hoursClass Experience
Students should know the first three notes on recorder (B, A, G) prior to taking this class. They should also know how to count whole, half and quarter notes. This class will take this beginning knowledge and continue to expand on these skills. As music performance best follows a cyclical learning sequence, each class will begin with some review and then add more notes and rhythms to their knowledge base so that we can add more challenging and fun songs. Students will play together, individually and with the teacher. We will use visuals on the screen to enhance our learning and to add more fun in our performances. I have multiple games to enhance learning of note and rhythm reading. I will provide background tracks to many of the songs so to help the feeling of success as they develop. Each student will also need their own book to practice with at home. We will also use the Recorder as a vehicle for learning other important musical concepts such as form, timbre, notation, and all forms of musical notation. They will be encouraged to be creative as well as they will compose some of their own songs by the end. The main goal for this class is to develop a love of making music on their own!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their abilities to perform and read melodic and rhythmic notation on the recorder with many fun and exciting songs.
