US Grade 1 - 4
Students will practice their reading, writing and comprehension skills in this once-a-week, ongoing class. The four language arts domains will be covered in each class—reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will engage in grade-level activities that foster reading comprehension and fluency. I have a flexible teaching style and I encourage students to actively participate. Learners may enroll at any time because each lesson stands on its own. I will begin each class with a prompt as a reading and writing exercise. Students will create a complete sentence referencing the prompt. I will introduce new vocabulary appropriate to each child’s grade-level each week. Reading selections, such as homework, may come from the student, or I will provide grade-appropriate grade-level reading materials. I use research-based methods, strategies, and techniques to increase your child’s reading fluency and comprehension skills. This includes flash cards, modeling, practice writing, oral reading, using Google Slides to introduce and reinforce concepts. Parents do not have to have an account to Google Slides. The first five minutes of class will be for introductions and vocabulary and homework check. Students will spend approximately 10-15 minutes actively reading and listening or correcting any homework they supply. The last five minutes of the class will be dedicated to checking for understanding.
