Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
ABC Read And Draw With Me!
We will meet three days a week to write simple sentences and illustrate what we write and read in this ongoing class. This class is excellent for those students who are learning to read and write simple sight words such as "the, and, on, it, my, to, go, here," and simple CVC/CVCe words such as "ran, run, had, came, come, mole, kite, cute," etc. I will be using flashcards, props, puppets and Google slides to reinforce these English language arts concepts.
Learners will be applying phonics to decode words. I emphasize correct letter formation when we practice writing the words. Students will learn the correct sentence structure.
After reading and writing the sentence, students will use their creativity to illustrate the main idea.
Students will need drawing paper, pencils, crayons or markers.

The class will be structured the following way.
There will be five minutes at the beginning of the class for welcome activities.
There will approximately 20 minutes of teacher-led instruction devoted to reading, writing and illustrating.
There will be five minutes devoted to closure exercises.

Below is a tentative schedule.

There will be times that we may be using Google Slides to present materials that are relevant to the lesson. For example, if we are on a lesson that has to do with the letters of the alphabet, or words that begin with certain vowels, I may use Screen Share to present pictures or words on Google Slides that go along with the lesson. Google Slides will only be used during screen sharing in class.

Hello moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, caretakers, and learners! I'm Dru Driver, M.Ed.
I love teaching!
Pre-k and kindergarten are where it all begins, and that's where I started. I taught kindergarten and pre-k for fifteen years before going into counseling. I have had extensive training in identifying dyslexia. I offer classes where young children learn letters and sounds through a motor-tactile experience. I hold certifications in ESL (English as a Second Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language). I have been teaching online ESL/TESOL classes since 2019.
I began counseling pre-k through 12 grades in 1996. I have taught PK-12th various activities and skills that range from leadership to exploring career programs of study. My counseling experiences have also included occasions where we dealt with grief.
I love animals of all kinds, and I am also a professional dog groomer.
Interacting with nature and taking pictures of wildlife is a passion I have had since I was a small child. I have had many experiences caring for and raising wildlife. I have successfully raised baby birds, squirrels, rabbits, opossums, and beavers.
I am certified to teach art in Texas, and I offer classes such as basic drawing and painting for beginning learners and art appreciation for all levels. Art is an area where children can explore their creative sides and deepest emotions. Often, art is a way for children to express themselves when they know no other way.
I have four children who are now grown, and they are all successful in their chosen professions.
I have found that being caring, artistic, and creative has enhanced my abilities to help others. I love teaching, and in my world, there is nothing more magical or miraculous than seeing children learning new skills. Learning is a lifelong endeavor for me, and I try to instill a love of learning in all my students. When you find what children love, you can teach them anything!
I love teaching! I look forward to your child joining the fun!
