US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
Welcome to Part 1 of our First Grade Reading and Writing course, where young learners embark on a journey to become confident readers and writers. Course Highlights: -Solidifying CVC: We'll begin by mastering Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC) words, a crucial stepping stone in reading and writing. -Exploring Digraphs and Diphthongs: Dive into the fascinating world of digraphs and diphthongs, where we'll uncover the secrets of letter combinations and their unique sounds. -Conquering Blends: Conquer blends that add richness to our language and enhance your child's reading fluency. -High-Frequency Heroes: Discover high-frequency words (not sight words) that will empower your young reader. -Reading Adventures: Explore simple stories and build comprehension skills. -Writing Adventures: In every class, your child will have the opportunity to write, from crafting sentences to labeling their drawings. We'll explore different writing styles and formats. -Presentation Skills: We'll foster confidence by encouraging students to present their work to the class, promoting effective communication and self-expression. -Interactive Learning: Engage in discussions, group activities, and presentations. -Common Core Aligned: Our curriculum aligns to Common Core standards, ensuring that your child's learning experience is both enriching and academically sound. Class structure: Greetings Review and learn the target sound of the day Review and learn any high-frequency words Read simple stories with the target sound of the day Write with the target sound of the day Draw and label a picture based on the day's reading Share with the group Goodbyes Teachers will gently guide and prompt learners to work out new or difficult sounds. Repetition will help solidify the target sounds and fluency. Learners will be encouraged to read in choral reading format (all reading at the same time) to minimize downtime. Reading comprehension will be advanced by engaging, open-ended questions and discussions. Learners will be encouraged to share their work but not obliged. PDF copies of the lesson will be available 24 hours prior to the lesson start to print. Learners may bring them to class to read and write with, or they may use a notebook, paper, or whiteboard. Students are welcome to enroll late. Each lesson is self-contained.
