Intermediate Level
Has you child mastered syllable division and syllable types and is ready to take their reading and spelling to the next level? In this camp, we will build on the foundation from Part I by learning the three essential spelling rules—drop, double, and change—so they can confidently tackle even more complex words. Through interactive, hands-on lessons, they’ll gain the tools to break down and read words one spelling rule/sound at a time. ✨Course Breakdown✨ Day 1: Review syllable types, Gentle/ Cindy Day 2: 1-1-1 Rule for -ck, -tch, and -dge Day 3: Double and Drop rules, suffixes Day 4: Change rule, y as a vowel /i/ Day 5: y as a vowel /e/ and short i ✨What to Expect✨ Hands-on practice with virtual whiteboards and physical paper Daily reviews to build confidence and reinforce skills Extra practice words sent after class for mastery Engaging stories that incorporate new sounds and concepts Your child will leave this camp equipped with practical decoding strategies that will make reading and spelling longer words feel less overwhelming and more achievable. ✨Who is this camp for?✨ This camp is designed for students who have completed Part I and can identify all 6 syllable types and apply the 4 syllable division patterns. ✨Why It Works✨ Using the Orton-Gillingham method, your child will benefit from explicit, systematic, and multi-sensory instruction designed to improve reading, writing, and spelling skills—especially for children with language-based learning difficulties like dyslexia. Give your child the skills they need to tackle challenging words with confidence and ease!

Other Details
Learning Needs
All learners benefit from hands-on reading instruction, but it is especially helpful in teaching concepts to those with dyslexia. We will physically take the words apart on paper to visually see the individual syllables.
Pre-Requisites
Boot Camp Part I -- This course assumes a student has completed Part I and can accurately identify all 6 syllable types (O, CL, ME, VT, BR and C+le) and divide words using all four syllable division patterns (VC/CV, V/CV, VC/V, V/V).
Supply List
For the first class, your student will need pencil, a highlighter or marker, and some index cards (any size or color) OR slips of paper about the size of index cards. For the rest of the classes, students should bring paper and pencil to each class, or a dry erase board with a marker.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
