Multi-Syllable Words: Prefixes

Once students have mastered basic phonics sounds, it’s time to expand their skills by adding prefixes and suffixes to root words—unlocking new words and deeper understanding!

🔹 Build a Stronger Vocabulary – Prefixes change a word’s meaning or function.
For example, adding un- to an adjective creates an opposite: unhappy, unfair.

🔹 Improve Reading & Writing – Understanding prefixes helps students break down unfamiliar words, improving both comprehension and expression.

Each week, we’ll focus on a specific prefix, learning how it transforms words and strengthens vocabulary. Students will practice recognizing, understanding, and using these building blocks in reading and writing.
