US Grade 2 - 3
Looking for a lively and fun drop-in class that practices essential literacy skills? This class blends social play with rich vocabulary practice, making it a perfect fit for students with busy schedules. Is this class, students will: ✨practice decoding skills ✨build vocabulary and critical thinking skills ✨analyze sound relationships ✨build spelling skills ✨become better readers and writers ✨review parts of speech Example Word Ladder: plane → plan → pan → pen → men → met → jet How it Works: 1. We begin with a starting word and read the first clue aloud. 2. Each student submits their answer through the chat (or on a whiteboard for easy sharing). 3. I’ll select a student to share the answer aloud and read the next clue to keep the game moving! 4. Once we reach the top of the ladder, we’ll discuss the connection between the starting and ending words and explore sorting the words by parts of speech, rhymes, opposites, definitions, and more (as time allows). ✨Familiarity with the chat feature is essential for sharing answers and participating. ✨Alternatively, students may use a dry-erase board to write and share responses Word Ladder Topics: (sign up for as many as you like!) Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Penn State University
I have tutored for 10+ years and homeschooled for over 18+ years. I am a grammar nerd and a writing geek.... word play makes sense to me and I love helping to make vocabulary and spelling come alive to others! I like to make learning fun and use what students are already interested in to teach them the things they might be missing. I like to see reading and writing "click"!
