Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Beginner Level
I provide tutoring in all areas of Reading, with a focus on essential skills such as Key Ideas and Details, Craft and Structure, Literary analysis of Theme, Setting, and Plot, as well as textual analysis of Informational Text. My approach is personalized to the student's needs and pace, ensuring they learn these important skills. I am happy to assist students in any homework they may find challenging. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment that helps students build confidence and overcome obstacles in their educational journey.

In my classes, I focus on minimizing direct instruction, or lectures, so students will be actively involved in the learning process. I assess students' current learning levels and background knowledge so I can tailor lessons to their educational goals. I provide the key information students need to understand the topic and follow with activities reinforcing their understanding through practice. This approach keeps students engaged and helps them achieve their goals. By giving pre-assessments, I can determine what concepts students need to learn, and through daily formative assessments make sure they have mastered the objectives. I believe all students can succeed and patiently work with each student to give them that opportunity.

Learning Goals

Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
Recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in the text.
