US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Students will spend two class meetings improving their understanding of patterns. Day 1: They will learn that patterns are all around us! We will examine size, color, and shape patterns in our first class. Day 2: We will progress to number and letter patterns in our second class. In each class the teacher will introduce and model different patterns. I will demonstrate how to complete existing patterns. Learners will identify patterns, complete pattern sequences, and independently create patterns using color, size, shape, letters, and numbers. The teacher will use visual aids to demonstrate how to decode AB, ABA, and ABBA, patterns. The teacher will guide learners as they draw and color patterns. This class meets the competency standards for K-2 patterning objectives. We will play, "What is Next?" as we explore the wonderful world of patterns. We will complete a wide variety of mixed patterns to demonstrate our understanding of patterns. Students will be engaged and interact with the teacher through participation in games, demonstrations, and question and answer activities! This is a hands on, highly interactive, guided instruction class, full of fun learning for every child!

Hi Parents! Thank you for your interest in my classes. I offer a wide variety of classes within the life skills, language arts, math, and science content areas. My most popular classes are private math tutoring, shoe tying, introduction to writing and a variety of creative arts classes. These classes are designed for students in elementary through grade 6. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught students from many cultures and backgrounds. I have taught all content subjects in every elementary grade as well as 6th grade Language Arts. I have taught students on line, in public, parochial, homebound, after school, and in enrichment settings. To date, I have taught over 8,000 virtual on-line classes! I am a licensed teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and also have my academically gifted certification. I earned my masters in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a highly-qualified bachelors in K-6 from Elon College/University. In addition, I have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education. How we learn and the stages we move through are always taken into account when creating and delivering instruction. In my classroom, I use a wide variety of instructional strategies and research based methodologies to meet the individual learning styles and interests of my students. I use inquiry based learning and believe students learn best when their learning styles and interests are part of the classroom experience. Relationships are an essential part of a students success both in and out of the classroom. Building strong relationships with my students is at the core of my instructional approach. I am a lifelong learner and want to inspire my love for learning with all of my students, in hopes they will be too. Teaching is my passion but in my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, embroidery, spending time outdoors and being on the water. I am happiest when playing with my eight year old grandson Alex and our adorable dog Gracie. I hope you will check out my catalog of classes.
