Class Experience

Are you looking for a party idea! This class is perfect for birthday parties! The teacher will demonstrate how to make a variety of finger and thumb print bugs in a step by step, guided, demonstration using washable paint. Learners may use paint, markers, or crayons. They will watch the teacher make the bugs and then mimic her movements, while playing a game to learn fascinating bug facts! Did you ever see a blue ladybug or a pink spider? They exist! Students may use a jar template to “catch” their bugs in! The template is attached in the “for enrolled learners” section of the class description. You may also print your own jug. There are many free jar and jug templates on the web. I can also show you how to draw one at the beginning of class! This is a great class for combining science with art, improving listening skills, and developing the ability to follow step by step instructions. The class will end with a true/false comprehension game. This class is designed to teach bug facts, develop creativity and artistic talents, all while having fun in a relaxed classroom atmosphere. Educational, creative, interactive and down right fun! See you soon!

Supply List
Students may use the Bug in A Jug Template. I have attached a template for you in the class materials section. If you wish, bring a jug template of your own. * you may print on any color paper or card stock you have. Card stock works very well because it is a bit sturdier and your paint won't cause the paper to buckle when drying. You will also need to bring your paints, 2 paper towels -1 wet and 1 dry for cleanup, AND 1 black marker for drawing wings and antennae. I look forward to seeing you soon. Jamie

Hi Parents! Thank you for your interest in my classes. I offer a wide variety of classes within the life skills, language arts, math, and science content areas. My most popular classes are private math tutoring, shoe tying, introduction to writing and a variety of creative arts classes. These classes are designed for students in elementary through grade 6. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught students from many cultures and backgrounds. I have taught all content subjects in every elementary grade as well as 6th grade Language Arts. I have taught students on line, in public, parochial, homebound, after school, and in enrichment settings. To date, I have taught over 8,000 virtual on-line classes! I am a licensed teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and also have my academically gifted certification. I earned my masters in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a highly-qualified bachelors in K-6 from Elon College/University. In addition, I have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education. How we learn and the stages we move through are always taken into account when creating and delivering instruction. In my classroom, I use a wide variety of instructional strategies and research based methodologies to meet the individual learning styles and interests of my students. I use inquiry based learning and believe students learn best when their learning styles and interests are part of the classroom experience. Relationships are an essential part of a students success both in and out of the classroom. Building strong relationships with my students is at the core of my instructional approach. I am a lifelong learner and want to inspire my love for learning with all of my students, in hopes they will be too. Teaching is my passion but in my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, embroidery, spending time outdoors and being on the water. I am happiest when playing with my eight year old grandson Alex and our adorable dog Gracie. I hope you will check out my catalog of classes. I would be happy to create a new class for your interests too. I hope to meet your child soon! Educationally Yours, Jamie
