Description
Class Experience
The student will explore how changes in homeostatic mechanisms will disrupt the human body and cause diseases. Mechanisms of disease will be studied in each system and will be examined for the effect that they produce on the structure and function of the body. Mainly we focus on common diseases in the course. This course relates the knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the disruptions in homeostasis resulting in a disorder or disease process. Objective and subjective manifestations of...
The purpose of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of factors that contribute to the occurrence of various diseases. Learners will learn how to recognize the signs and symptoms of diseases. Learning Outcomes: 1. Describe our current understanding of the pathogenesis and epidemiology of the common or important diseases. 2. Describe and recognize the major cell and tissue alterations associated with the major diseases. 3. Describe how pathological analysis is used to recognize the major types of malignancies. 4. Distinguish environmental factors, physical, psychosocial, and cognitive characteristics of various diseases and conditions. 5. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the concepts and elements of disease.
I have a biomedical background and I thought of A&P and Pathophysiology courses for many years at the college level in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Learners will have short quizzes throughout this course. Additionally, throughout the course, they will have discussion questions that they will be required to respond to.
I will provide the necessary reading materials. In addition, I will provide them with the necessary instructional videos and virtual models when necessary.
Learners will demonstrate what they have learned by completing the course materials. I consider a few components to evaluate the students in this class. 1) Their attendance and if they attended every class. 2) Did they complete the multiple-choice and comprehension question and turn them in on time. 3) Did they participate in the group discussion. I will write a report to the parent for how the student did in the class and their assignments. This will be a good indication of well they understood the materials and their future success in school.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will provide them with the necessary instructional videos and virtual models. In addition books such as the following can be used: Clinical Oral Physiology. Understanding Pathophysiology, Canadian Edition. Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Diseases. Clinical Pathophysiology Made Ridiculously Simple. Study Guide for Understanding Pathophysiology
