Class Experience
Did you know that the average person will spend a total of 26 years of their life sleeping?! But what happens when something goes wrong with your sleep? A sleep disorder is a change in the way you sleep that can affect your overall health and quality of life. In this one-time class, appropriate for middle and high school students, we will discuss a variety of sleep disorders that are commonly seen. We will look at the science behind each and the treatments that can alleviate the disease....
Students will demonstrate learning of the symptoms and treatment of a variety of common sleep disorders seen throughout the population.
I am a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist and have been the Coordinator for a hospital-based sleep lab for the last 8 years. Prior to that, I taught middle and high school science classes for 10 years. I get to combine those two subjects in my Outschool classes. I am very passionate about sleep! Many of the complaints that doctors see coming into their offices during the day, actually have their origins in the patient's sleep. By improving our educational exposure to diseases of our sleep, we will more easily recognize their symptoms and get them treated earlier, improving our life in the process.
