Hello! I have taught orchestra for 20 years and I still love seeing the joy on young learners' faces! This class is structured to start with beginning violin, viola, or cello and move through the first lessons of holding the instrument, placing notes with the left hand, and learning the bow hold. My teaching style is student-centered; I use their interest and progress to plan engaging lessons around their current skill level. Students will learn how to properly hold their instrument with good left hand technique. They recognize and perform notes on their D and A strings while plucking. As we progress, we will learn bow hold and combine our right and left hand technique.
It is suggested to practice 20 minutes on your own daily.
Essential Elements for Strings, book 1
Informal teacher assessment of student performance will guide our lessons.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
I will use the "Essential Elements for Strings" book 1. You can purchase this on Amazon or at a music store.
