Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
What will be taught?
- How to produce a beautiful sound on the violin or viola.

What topics will be covered? - The content will depend on your student's level. For beginners, we will focus on:
 - Note reading
- Rhythm
- Intonation
- Steady beat
- Pizzicato and arco

How will this class be structured?
- Tuning
- Warm-up
- Technique exercises
- Focused song work

Students are expected to practice between lessons. I prefer to listen to what they've practiced before diving into new material. I’ll demonstrate concepts through my own playing to guide students.

I use a range of methods for beginner and intermediate students, including exercises from Essential Elements and pieces from Solos for Young Violinists and the Suzuki books. I’m also open to working on pieces outside of my repertoire.

Lessons are one-on-one, with plenty of back-and-forth playing. Students will demonstrate their progress each week.

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of either the violin or viola.
Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of the difference between pizzicato and arco.

I hold an Honors Bachelor's in Music Education with a focus on violin. I began piano at age five and started learning violin in sixth grade. Throughout my degree, I took private lessons in viola, cello, double bass, and piano. At The University of Texas at Arlington, I performed with the university's full orchestra, playing a wide range of classical music. I've been teaching violin since the start of my college years and have three years of experience teaching general music at the elementary level in public schools.
