Class Experience

In this 8-week computer maintenance course, students will delve into the inner workings of PC components and learn how to build a computer from scratch. They will also learn how to optimize their use of their new machine. Additionally, students will learn about essential maintenance techniques to keep their computers running smoothly and efficiently. This class will cover a total of 10 techniques that every computer owner should know in order to keep their device happy and healthy.

Building a gaming PC can be a daunting task for those who are new to computer hardware and assembly. However, with some research and careful planning, anyone can successfully build their own gaming machine.

To begin, you will need to gather all of the necessary components. This includes a processor (CPU), graphics card (GPU), motherboard, RAM, storage (an SSD and/or an HDD), power supply unit (PSU), case, and any peripherals you may want (such as a monitor, keyboard, and mouse). It is important to choose components that are compatible with one another and that will meet the requirements of the games you wish to play.

Next, you will need to assemble the components. Start by installing the CPU and RAM onto the motherboard. Then, install the GPU into the appropriate slot. Next, attach the storage (SSD and/or HDD) to the motherboard and case. Finally, connect the power supply to the components and secure it to the case.

After all of the components are installed, you will need to connect any peripherals (such as a monitor, keyboard, and mouse) and install the operating system. This can typically be done by inserting the operating system installation media (such as a disc or USB drive) into the computer and following the on-screen prompts.

Finally, it is important to regularly maintain your new gaming PC to ensure it stays in top shape. This includes keeping the hardware clean, updating drivers and the operating system, and possibly overclocking (which involves increasing the speed of the processor and graphics card for improved performance).

Overall, building a gaming PC may seem intimidating at first, but with the right knowledge and a bit of patience, anyone can do it. The end result is a custom-built machine that is tailored to your specific needs and offers improved performance for all of your gaming needs.

All of this will be covered in detail during class.

As a serial entrepreneur who founded three successful companies before the age of 30, my drive to succeed in life began in my teens when I realised the power of positive motivation. I was lucky enough to have a good mentor who guided me through the intricacies of financial management which helped me to understand the value of money, how to identify and seize opportunities to make money and how to manage an investment portfolio.

I hold a Bachelors degree and also teach conversational English to children and adults across the world.
